INTERVENTION

The purpose of an intervention is to break the addict’s cycle of denial. It is quite common for addicts and alcoholics to deny that there is a problem. They tend to blame it on others. This can make it difficult to find a solution without professional help.

For this reason, PROMIS provides a specialised and confidential Intervention Service to help families, friends and employers, pave the way for the addicted/alcoholic person to begin their recovery.

Interventions show the alcoholic/addict the facts about their behaviour. That they are often hurting people close to them and that they have a life threatening disease. When the addict or alcoholic is made aware of these facts, a course of action is agreed upon. If the addict/alcoholic refuses help, PROMIS can provide assistance to the family, friends and employer.

For the intervention to be effective timing is important and includes.

  • Intervention Planning
  • Pre-Intervention Meeting
  • Intervention: the addict or alcoholic and the family and other people involved are brought together in a structured process.
  • A recovery program is agreed upon.
